Fran Kirmser
Fran Kirmser has worked for over ten years, producing, promoting and fundraising for dance and theater. Collectively she has raised millions of dollars in institutional funding and corporate sponsorships for hundreds of companies. She has held positions in Development, Special Event Planning, Management, Booking or Representation with the following organizations: Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall, Musical Theater Works, Pentacle, Sandra Cameron Dance Center , and Doug Varone and Dancers. She is a founder of Manhattan Theatre Source, a theatre collective in the west village, where she served as Producing Artistic Director and currently sits on the Advisory Board. She also sits on the Advisory Board of Apples and Oranges - a new bi-coastal arts production company. In 2002 Fran founded Made to Move, Inc. - a non-profit dedicated to the advancement of public knowledge of the art of dance and theater. From 2002 to 2005 Made to Move developed and produced The Biography Project. This series created and produced the stories of historically significant performing artists in an effort to better archive and draw awareness to their work. Productions include: Isadora…No Apologies, and In Search of a Goddess, “ingeniously told”. -New York Times.
Fran has worked on the development of new theatrical works with Circle in the Square Repertory Theatre, Encompass Music Theater, Williamstown Theater Festival and Musical Theater Works and as the executive producer of SIDD, a new musical based on the novel “Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse, that ran commercially at Dodger Stages 2006. She produced August Wilson’s Radio Golf on Broadway at The Cort Theater garnering an Outer Critics Circle Award Nomination for Outstanding Play, Drama League Award Nomination for Distinguished Production of a Play, four Tony Award Nominations including one for Best Play and won the New York Drama Critics Circle for best American play. Fran is currently producing Hair on Broadway and working on the Development of Lombardi based on the book When Pride Still Mattered ~ A Life of Vince Lombardi by David Maraniss. Hair is the recipient of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
Fran is a graduate of Skidmore College with continuing education at NYU Tisch Dance Residency Program, Laban Institute of Movement, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the New School University and Columbia University Graduate School of Psychology. She has served on the New York Foundation for the Arts (www.nyfa.org) funding panel and teaches numerous development and promotional workshops with the Field (www.thefield.org) and throughout the city.
Trained in dance and choreography, favorite past projects include choreography for Only Heaven composer Ricki Ian Gordon, and performing the repertory of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Co., American Dance Machine, Susan Marshall, Ralph Lemon, Isadora Duncan, Doris Humphrey, and Jack Cole.
